If you are looking to get a good pair of roller skates that will last you the next 10 years, it would be best to invest in a leather boot with an aluminum chassis/plate under the boot. A leather roller skate boot will give you good ankle support and comfort. The aluminum chassis are heavier duty and last longer than a composite/plastic chassis. We recommend our custom roller skate packages with Riedell boots & Sure-Grip plates for adult skaters.

If you are buying roller skates for kids below size 4 weighing less than 60lbs, then a regular pair of roller skates would be ok regardless of chassis.

The word Quad is most often in describing "Quad Speed Skates" which are generally low-cut boots with wider/harder micro grooved speed wheels for racing indoors or Roller Derby. Jam skates are sometimes the same thing as quad speed skates. Jam skaters sometimes prefer them for Jam skating/dancing.
