1. Grab a running shoe (without too much padding). Make sure your running shoes fit tight. Tight, as in, your toe is at the edge or very near to the end of the shoe. Make sure the running shoe does not have tons of padding. When you have picked a shoe that meets these requiremnets, this is an educated guess to the size you should start with. All skates on SKATES.COM have sizing charts associated with the products. (EXCEPT FOR GROWING KIDS...SEE STEP 3 BELOW)

2. Inline skates should fit snugly yet not be so tight as to restrict circulation or crimp the toes. A boot that is too loose can be as uncomfortable as one that is too tight. A boot that is too loose will cause loss of control and blistering. It will not respond to your movements quickly or accurately. A boot that is too tight will make it too uncomfortable to skate by restricting circulation in the feet.( We recommend Coolmax socks for comfort and control.) Extremely light and thin, they prevent friction build-up that causes blistering. Because they are razor thin the skater will also gain control by fitting into the snuggest boot possible without discomfort.

3. As for growing children, parents should buy skates no more than one size larger than the actual shoe size. For safety's sake - you can only anticipate so much growth. Do not sacrifice current safety for future growth. Most all kids fitness skates are adjustable so no worries there, but for bigger kids who want aggressive skates, there are certain skates which fit differently than others.
