The In-Line skate Speedometer generally consists of two components. One measuring wheel and a wristwatch display. The heart of the system is the skate computer which is integrated in the special MICROSPORT speedometer wheel. The computer continuously analyses your skating style. This means the computer recognizes wether the skate is in the air or on the ground and wether you use the skating technique or roll down a hill. This information is neccessary to determine the speed and the distance of the body of the skater in the direction of move. in difference to cycling, where the wheel has ground contact all the time and you can calculate the distance covered simply by multiplying the number of turns with the wheels perimeter, the situation in inline skating is far more complex

The calorie function is bases on reseach of the University of Massachusetts which related the calorie consumption with the weight and the speed of the skater. Microsport was able to achieve an even better accuracy of the results by taking the number of skating moves into account as well.
If the speedometer wheel is worn out because of the usual waer and tear you simply need a cheap spare wheel and keep the electronic components of your speedometer.
