Dance blades differ from freestyle blades mainly in the short blade tail. The reduced tail length is designed to reduce the possibility of interference and/or injury to the skating partner. Many dance blades have fined down the edges or reduced blade width for the high speed mobility from edge to edge using minimal effort. The purpose of the dance blade is to perform closely WITH a skating partner many maneuvers at relatively high speeds.
Blade taper is the thickness of the blades where the width is wider at the base of the rakes than at the tail of the blade. This tapering effect is designed to reduce drag or resistance for the ice when the blade is in forward motion.
The precision blades have a unique angled toe pick to eliminate unwanted bite and a dance blade styled shortened tail to reduce the possibility of interference and/or injury to precision team members. The purpose of the precision blade is to perform team maneuvers at various speeds.
