Freestyle blades have larger toe picks with at least one predominate pick for solid grip when making jumps and spins. To prevent slipping on the blade on the ice, there is an extra deep radius of hollow to the blade. Side honing, which is the removal, at the factory, of steel on the inside and outside surfaces of the blade, adds maximum edge grip and lightens the weight of the blade slightly.
The purpose of the Freestyle blade is to perform maneuvers at relatively high speeds.
