      I have been skating derby for 3 years now. I have skated on a variety of boot/plate combo's. The boot is wonderful and built to last. There is very little break in time needed on the boot. The plate is great and easily upgradable to the Reactor if you decide to later. One of the features of the PowerDyne Pro plate is that the toe stop is not held in place by a nut but rather a locking pin. During hard stops or aggressive starts and spins, the nut will work loose and potentally cause a penalty (or worse, an injury) for a lost toe stop. The only part of this skate that I do not care for are the Mojo wheels. They are too 'sticky' for my taste.

      These are great skates. :)
    • Very smooth and quite light which makes all the skills just a little easier. Great investment for someone getting into derby as these skates will be great for the beginner stage AND their true colours will shine once you find your feet and become more experienced.

      I've been roller derbying for over a year and I got as far as I was going to get using my R3s. Almost every girl in my league recommended these skates. They definately were not wrong. There is a break in period and the shorter wheel base takes some getting used to but all in all they're really great skates.

      I'm a busy roller derby girl so I appreciated Skates.com. The style, quality, durability, and comfort all get an A+. The customer service and website were helpful and professional. The prices were competitive. It was a clean transaction.

      I love these skates!
    • I ordered them without the rolled collar just not into the extra pad. I'm lovin the elastic secured tongue it keeps it from sliding from side to side.

      [...]The skates did NOT have the red rims fitted - rather they were polished metal - the order form which was attached did not specify the red rims so I did not pursue that any further.The next week was my first opportunity to skate with them.As I struggled eventually friends suggested I should have someone with experience in 'setting up' skates look at them.it turned out that (a) the jump bars were so tight the skates could not turn and (b) the wheel nuts were not tightened on any of the 8 wheels when the bearings were replaced.Once adjusted the skates have been very good. I am still getting used to the lower heels of these compared to the hire skates I had been using but this improves each session. I have not yet returned to my previous form so am not entirely sure yet...

      I play roller derby. When I started, I, like most "fresh meat," bought a pair of R3's. While some people rave about them, I thought they were little better than rental skates. I noticed no difference in handling crossovers, speed, stopping, not to mention, they were somewhat uncomfortable and I never felt safe going around turns.
    • At first, I tried buying new bearings, new wheels, and a new stopper (round stoppers are way better and safer than the wedge shaped "thing" that comes with R3's), but I was still disappointed. I felt like they were holding back my performance, so I decided on a whim to order the Wicked's, which I had wanted in the first place but was trying to be frugal.
    • All I have to say is... WOW. Seriously. I am skating much faster (currently doing 27 in 5 min as opposed to 21 in 5 min), I can maneuver better (can snake in and out of a whole team going full speed in the straightaway - "snake" exercise), etc. They are comfortable too, which makes it easier to be more fluid in my motions.
    • Plus - if you are unsure whether to put up the money or cheap out - R3's last, at best, one season of derby because they have a cheap man-made boot and a plastic plate that you cannot replace. Wicked's will last the rest of your life because they are leather and have a metal plate you can replace.
    • Think of it as an investment and buy these. You really will not regret it once you use them - even if you have to buy them on credit (;
