My son (12 years) wanted "old fashioned" skates for Christmas. Where to start? I contacted everywhere in Australia and saw a girl in the streets wearing roller skates. She suggested on line from the USA. I scanned the sight, saw skates that resembled my own from chilhood [...]. Again I thank you and so does my son who thinks his skates are the coolest thing!

These skates was for my son. We go skating every Saturday night. The first time, the right skate would drift into the left skate as he was skating. The front wheels on the right skate does not line up with the rest of the skate. So, I loosened the front truck till it quit pulling to the left and know he is use to the skates and they are doing fine. He loves the skates. The look and how light weight they are. He can do a lot of tricks with them with ease. Thank you very much, so far they are working great.

Very good quality indoor/rink skates, I love them! Really comfortable, smooth ride. I'm happy with the fit and performance. Definitely wouldn't recommend them for outdoors as the wheels are pretty hard and don't absorb any shock.

i bought these for use in roller derby. i just started, so i decided to get a slightly cheaper pair. huuuge mistake. i got these skates in and my first time wearing them, the wheels squealed and kept catching, causing me to pitch forwards or backwards and fall. after practice, my coach took a look at them and told me that all 8 bearings were dry. he said that bearings normally come packed with grease or already oiled. i'd upgraded to the quadline abec bearings when checking out. [...].the boots are very inflexible and give awful blisters on the inner foot and along the ankle bones. the tongues bruise your ankles.won't be buying from skates.com again.

I purchased these skates for my sister who is getting into roller derby. She is really picky about anything that goes on her feet, so I was excited to hear that the skates were comfortable from the get go. They were smooth, and even with the stock wheels, they were beginner good. Though, she did mention that the skates were a little heavy, but then again, beginner needs to work up the skating legs.

I thought I would be needing to seriously be wearing in my new skates. Surprisingly, the way it is cut around the ankle and the tounge of the boot are perfect! No blistering or painful ankles in general! On top of all that, they are cute and durable. I am very satisfied with my purchase and I suggest this product to anyone who is wanting to start skating!

Bought these skates for my son. They worked great. The only problem was one skate would go the oppisite direction from the other. After working on tightening and loosing booth skates we finally got them to roll the same direction. Other than that they worked out great.

I bought my RW Volts in November of 2010, when I was just starting up in roller derby. I have been skating heavily ever since (10-20 hours a week). It is now almost a year later and these skates are still holding up. I put newer and better wheels on them right away, of course, and the bearings and everything were very dry. The only place these skates are getting worn are by my left front wheel on my left side, from crossovers. Just because these skates are less expensive than most, doesn't mean they are out of the running. They have never hindered my ability to skate and I have never found a reason to replace them yet. The toe-stops are also in an extremely comfortable place for me to run on. I am a new skater but I am already competing, so these skates have been well worth what I paid for them. I love these skates.

Customer Rating - 4 stars - Decent skate

I'm a broke college student, and needed skates to start my roller derby experience. I'm glad I went with the Volts, as they are a decent skate for their price. The wheels that come with them are cheap and awful, but work for casual skating, and I'm keeping them to use when outside, but I've since upgraded to better wheels and bearings. The bearings need oil when you get them. They're a bit wide for my feet, but I have narrow feet and most shoes/skates are, so I wear two socks and i'm fine. My two major problems with them are the toe stop, which is unmovable and too big and trips me up quite a bit, and the king pin. I like my trucks loose, and the pins aren't very long, and can't be kept too loose. I've had my truck fall off completely in the middle of skating. This was my own mistake though, and as soon as I tightened them up a bit, nothing bad has happened. These were decent beginner skates, and they've worked good for me while learning to play derby.

Using these skates compared to higher quality skate (even r3's which some people still consider too cheap) is like comparing a [@] skateboard to a real brand name one. The quality of the skate is so bad, that it actually holds you back more than helping you. The wheels were slick, even on a coated concrete floor ( which most are pretty stick in my opinion)No website that I went on with these skates for sale said anything about the hardness, which is one of the most important aspects in a wheel, so how is anyone supposed to know how they will perform? They were useless nonetheless. The bearings that come in the wheels are terrible. The plates are kind of a joke, they are completely plastic, which will eventually break, and the bushings/cushions that come in them are too hard, so if you like loose trucks, all you'll feel is the truck clicking back and forth on the bushings, and you'll inevitably get speed whobbles as well. The the boot itself is very hard to break in, and the toe box is too large. They just never felt right on my feet. Some people say r3's are bad, but they have been absolutely wonderful for me, and alot of other people I know. If you want a cheap, good quality skate, go for the r3 and don't waste your time on the volt.

I just joined my local roller derby team and have been practicing for the last 2 weeks, 3 practices. The skates have not even lasted through the 3 practices as frames are now crooked. By the end of my practice I could not even skate a straight line. Will not be buying these again or any plastic frame skates.

I bought these skates for my son for Christmas - he took to them like a duck to water - had a bit of rubbing inside the boot, however I think he just needs to wear thicker socks. I love the strap for tightening the boots on. Good support for learners. You need to pull the wheels off - clean out the grease and put in some singer sewing machine oil in to get the wheels moving as they are stiff and won't spin much initially due to the grease providing too much drag. But the postage was awesome - got these in about 9 days and I am in Australia. Got them in time for Christmas! All in all a lot cheaper than getting them in Australia - so I am very pleased.
