I bougth this pair of skates, because it isn't possible to skate with normal skates on our bad streets. I love skating since I was a little child and I don't like Inline-Skates. These skates are a great alternative and I'm very satisfied with it.

I had tried skates with outdoor wheels before for use on asphalt, and the resistance was just too great. I found about these skates from a skating Web site. They're a roller skate hybrid, meaning they're quad skates with large thin wheels more like what you would find on an inline skate. I was really worried about every aspect of purchasing these skates. I used the Riedell sizing chart to help me pick out my size, and it worked fine. However, I was confused about whether to get these skates or two others on the site that were all about in the same price range. When I called to ask questions, I was connected to Richard Humphrey, who very patiently answered my questions about the different pairs of skates. In short, two were just the same except they had different color wheels. A similiar skate had slightly smaller wheels with wider trucks and a different brand boot. I decided on this pair because I wanted something as much like a regular roller skate as possible. I was also confused about what kind of brake to get. I've never used a back brake, and I just wanted to be able to drag my stopper like I do in the rink. The skate came with a regular stopper, but I knew from the Web site there was a longer one especially for these higher skates. [...] I ordered and put on myself, using a regular flat screw driver with an extra wide blade. Before I got my longer front stopper or any padding, I tried them out on the asphalt track at the local middle school. I skated about 30 minutes, and then I fell to one knee in the curve. The asphalt shredded my jeans like they were tissue paper. It was a good little lesson. I put on the long stopper and bought a helmet, along with knee, elbow, and wrist pads and gloves. I've been on them three times, including the time I fell, and I think I'm going to love them. The wheels and the asphalt take a little adjustment, so I'm taking it easy around the track. The wheels sometimes feel wobbly like they're going to come off, but I'm pretty sure that's just because the wheel profile is so different from what I'm used to and is more like a quarter than a log. But it is pure joy to snap on my iPod and to go just a mile to my house and have so much room to skate. The skates handle the debris on the track really well. It doesn't have to be a perfect surface for them to work. The asphalt offers so much more resistance than wood. I'm still getting used to stroking on this new surface. There are no skating rinks where I live anymore. Our only skating rink is a converted gym. I've skated all my life but have had limited access to rinks. I've been watching Richard's roller dance lessons online, too, and I want to learn to jam and have fun. I'm 45, and this is so much more fun than any other exercise. I wanted to add one more thing about the front stoppers. The stoppers don't even phase the asphalt, and I find I'm doing what's called a plow to stop, something I never did in a rink. If anyone has any questions, I suggest you call the toll-free number for helpful information. Having someone to advise me made this easier than it would have been otherwise.

Ordered this new boot and have skated on others that gave me blisters. This one was the best fit and most comfortable skate I have been in.

Love these! I have two pair myself, and have given 2 other pairs as gifts. :) They DO take a little getting used to if you're used to normal quad rollerskates, because the wheelbase is slightly narrower, so they feel slightly less stable for the first little while. Once you adjust and let that thought go, though - wow. They maneuver and turn like inlines, and are more forgiving of small obstacles (also like inlines) than quads. LOVES me some Quadlines!
